Day two of our spring break trip to Black Mountain and Asheville started with a visit to the Western North Carolina Nature Center. It’s like a small zoo but with an emphasis on local animals. Though they definitely had animals not from these parts. Many of the animals seemed to be rescues. It was fun, a good vibe.
Next we went to the Asheville Retrocade. It’s an arcade with an entry fee and all the games are set to free play. There were lots of pinball machines, vintage arcade games, and the bar had tvs with modern consoles. It was probably 50/50 adults and kids which made for a welcoming environment.
We got coffees and snacks from a nearby bakery and coffee shop and then headed to the River Arts District. We popped into a few studios and galleries and then ate dinner at Fresh West Pizza, which was great for our two families. The pizzas are a large personal size, thin and wood fired. Megan and I split a house salad and the Fun Guy, a mushroom-heavy pizza. It was great.
